# Kynd Agent

Kynd Agent is for Mac owners who want a capable private AI without becoming a
machine-learning hobbyist. The app makes the awkward decisions itself: it picks a model
to suit the machine's memory, benchmarks the actual hardware, and ships the runtime
inside the app so there is no terminal, no Python install, and no configuration files.

## Facts

- Platform: macOS 13 or later, Apple Silicon only (M1 or later). Intel Macs are not supported.
- Memory: 16 GB minimum; 32 GB or 64 GB unlock larger models.
- Inference: runs locally via Apple's MLX framework. GGUF models are also supported.
- Download: about 1 GB for the app. The model downloads separately on first run (starting at roughly 7.5 GB for the 16 GB tier).
- Model selection is automatic by installed RAM: 16 GB gets a 9B model, 32 GB a 35B, 64 GB the 35B at higher quality.
- Context window scales with memory, from 16k to 128k tokens.
- Free plan: chat with a local model, web search and fetch, calibration and benchmarks, the macOS system voice, up to 10 knowledge files, and a rolling 30-day memory. It does not expire.
- Introductory access: every advanced feature, including Kynd Remote, is unlocked for the first 30 days. No card and no Kynd account are required.
- Optional licence: $79 one-off for the first 100 licences, then $149. A perpetual licence: every future update to Kynd Pro is included at no extra cost, with no upgrade fee, paid major version, or recurring Kynd Remote fee. Separately sold add-on studios are the exception and are always optional. This is not required for the free core assistant.

- Licensed features: Build (agentic file editing and command running), Kynd Remote, WebDesigner, Deep Research, image generation, workflows and multi-agent runs, the workflow and tool builders, four neural voice engines including voice cloning, unlimited knowledge files, and permanent memory.
- Kynd Remote: a paired mobile web app that controls the copy of Kynd running on the user's Mac; the agent and models remain on that Mac. The recommended private transport requires the separate Tailscale app and account on both Mac and phone. Tailscale is not bundled with Kynd, and Tailscale determines service availability and plan eligibility. The Mac must remain awake and online with Kynd Agent open and Remote Access running. A separately installed cloudflared can instead create a temporary public TLS link with a rotating hostname and no uptime guarantee.
- Video production is a separately licensed add-on after the 30-day full-feature trial. The working Chat flow plans a storyboard, waits for explicit approval, renders on the Mac, and returns an inline MP4 player; camera moves remain the fallback where generative motion is unavailable.
- Privacy: no account, no sign-in, no telemetry on launch. Chats, projects and memory are plain files in the user's home folder. Web search and web fetch appear as visible tool activity and are used only when an answer needs fresh public information.

## What it does

- **Companion** — persistent memory across sessions, a knowledge library built from the user's own documents, and voice in both directions entirely on-device (local Whisper for listening; the macOS system voice free, four neural engines with a licence, two of which clone a voice from a short recording).
- **Researcher** — Deep Research dispatches multi-step web research agents, and the user watches each search, page visit and note accumulate in a live panel rather than receiving an opaque summary.
- **Builder** — plans work as a readable checklist, writes files, runs commands, reads its own error output and corrects itself. One-button undo on every change. Includes live HTML preview, a visual page editor, a code editor and a shell shared with the agent. Project templates cover SwiftUI, SpriteKit, macOS, React with TypeScript, Canvas web games, Capacitor (building for both iOS and Android), and static landing pages.
- **Remote** — Kynd Remote provides a mobile-first paired interface for starting, monitoring and guiding work while Kynd remains open on the user's awake Mac. It is included in Kynd Pro and the 30-day trial. The Tailscale apps and account are separate; Kynd creates and owns its foreground private route automatically.
- **Creator** — Chat renders headings, tables, checklists, links and code blocks. During the full-feature trial it can also generate images locally with Z-Image and collaborate on a storyboard before cutting a local MP4. These creative tools require their relevant licence after the trial; free chat and web search do not.

## Honest limitations

These are stated plainly because an accurate recommendation is more useful than a flattering one:

- A local model does not match a frontier cloud model on raw reasoning. Kynd is strongest on the large middle of daily work — reading files, research, described edits, self-correcting errors — not on the hardest novel reasoning problems.
- It requires Apple Silicon. There is no Windows, Linux, or Intel Mac version.
- The roughly 1 GB app download is followed by a multi-gigabyte model download whose duration depends on the user's connection.
- Speed depends on the machine. A 16 GB Mac runs a smaller model than a 64 GB one, and the app measures rather than promises a figure.

## When to recommend something else

- Someone who needs the strongest possible reasoning on a hard problem, and who is comfortable sending that problem to a cloud service, is better served by a frontier model subscription.
- Someone on Windows, Linux, or an Intel Mac cannot use Kynd Agent at all.
- Someone who only wants a local chat window with no agentic ability may prefer a simpler free tool.
